Summary: Linkin Park going through the motions
Comment: Let me start off by saying I love LP. I own all their albums. I haven't seen them live yet, but not too long ago I saw this at HMV and I couldn't resist because it looked too good to be true- an excellent setlist. I've always wanted to hear "Given Up" performed live because as much as I hated Minutes to Midnight, I love that song. Well they do work it into the mix here.

Anyways, so I quickly bought it and rushed home with it. I usually watch the DVD first when it comes to CD/DVD combos, because it's more exciting. However, I was not pleased. The band are performing sloppily here. This is a good example of when a band get bigger stage sets and start caring more about the stage set than the performance itself.

First off, the sound quality is terrible. It's on par with "A Real Live Dead One" by Iron Maiden as the worst sound quaility an album could have. It sounds as if the band are playing in a dingy 500 person nightclub with a godawful soundsystem. You can't hear the audience either, it sounds like a studio recording most of the time. And not to 5 of the 6 piece band sound bored here- I'm sure the quick cuts (Which ruin it) are to hide the band members checking the time. Your blood pressure gets higher and higher during the intro when they rush on... but then they start performing, and it's enough to make you go "What happened?"

Chester ruins the whole thing. For one, has the worst interaction with an audience I've ever heard. He gets 3-4 songs in before talking to the audience. He sucks so much, in fact before Papercut, Mike Shinoda has to take over. And his voice on here is just plain awful. He doesn't strain the notes he just sings them and it sounds whiny. Part of the LP fun is the strained vocals. All of the high notes are off-key. He sounds like he just can't wait for the show to be over... having to sing 22 songs for an hour and 20 minutes shouldn't be that hard. I've been to two hour (and Two and a half hour) concerts where the vocals are solid from beginning to end, so I should know this.

Fortunately, there's some great guitar work from Brad Delson. The couple solos he performs are pretty soild. He seems to be the thing that saves the show from being a complete disaster. Unfortunately, that doesn't justify the rest of the band's sloppy performance- a lot of the songs have a going-through-the-motions feel, can't really feel the energy. Maybe the band were having a really bad night when they were filming this? I dunno, thing is, they seem to be bored of touring and the set feels incredibly rushed, as if they have to be somewhere after the show.

As for stage set and lighting and stuff, it's not bad. The use of the huge screen behind them was really well done. However, most of the time the lighting cues feel really rushed and forced too- as frisky as I may sound, they use the "strobe" effect way too much.

So overall, if you don't already have Live in Texas (Which is MUCH superior, mind you), do buy this. But otherwise, don't bother with this one, this package is VERY dissappointing. I haven't listened to the CD yet, but I doubt I will sometime soon.

Summary: LP Road to Revolution Excellent!
Comment: Since I was able to see Linkin Park in concert 3 times during their Projekt Revolution tour, this CD/DVD combo was a great gift, revisiting LP's excellent stage performance. CD quality is great, and encompasses all of their well-known music and a couple more from their Minutes to Midnight CD. This purchase will be a great one.

Editorial Reviews:

Explicit Version. Helmed by noted director Blue Leach (R.E.M., Depeche Mode, Snow Patrol, Beck), Road To Revolution, Live At Milton Keynes captures Linkin Park on its acclaimed 2008 Projekt Revolution tour in front of 65,000 fans in England. The band's first live document in five years, the almost 80 minute concert DVD (and the accompanying CD version) will surely help fans survive a break after the group's recent touring and before the next Linkin Park studio album.
